‘Bird Box Barcelona’ Trailer: The Bird Box Challenge Hits Spain In Netflix’s International Horror Spinoff

Remember Bird Box? Released in 2018, the Sandra Bullock thriller was a gigantic hit for Netflix, proving that they can successfully release blockbuster content that people would normally expect to see in a theater. It was such a hit, that you had morons out there with blindfolds on causing accidents and shit. Netflix knew they had something big on their hands, and launched a series of spinoffs showing how the global threat played out in different countries.

A trailer has arrived for the first of those spinoffs, Bird Box Barcelona, which centers on one man in Spain as he tries to survive the mysterious force that drives people to kill themselves when they look at it. Hence the blindfolds.

The film stars Mario Casas, Georgina Campbell, Alejandra Howard, Naila Schuberth, Diego Calva, Patrick Criado, Lola Dueñas, Gonzalo De Castro, Michelle Jenner, and Leonardo Sbaraglia. Directing duo Álex Pastor and David Pastor (The Last Days) are behind the camera.

Will this have the same momentary cultural impact as Bird Box? Probably not. That was a lightning in a bottle situation and will be tough to match. Bird Box Barcelona hits Netflix on July 14th.

SYNOPSIS: From the producers of the global phenomenon, Bird Box, comes BIRD BOX BARCELONA, an expansion of the film that riveted audiences in 2018. After a mysterious force decimates the world’s population, Sebastian must navigate his own survival journey through the desolate streets of Barcelona. As he forms uneasy alliances with other survivors and they try to escape the city, an unexpected and even more sinister threat grows.
