‘Meg 2: The Trench’ Trailer: Jason Statham Slugs It Out With Another Prehistoric Monster In Ben Wheatley’s Sequel

There’s not a lot of mystery to a sequel to 2018’s The Meg, which saw Jason Statham literally slug it out with a prehistoric megalodon. Well, let me take that back. There is one looming mystery: director Ben Wheatley. What will the auteur behind films such as Sightseers, Kill List, and 2021’s In the Earth do on a studio blockbuster like this, and can he adapt to a totally different kind of movie?

Based on the trailer for Meg 2: The Trench, Wheatley has adjusted just fine. Based on the second of author Steve Allen’s Meg novels (yes, there’s a third), the film sees Statham return as Jonas Taylor, and this time he’s battling a Kronosaurus that has suddenly shown up to cause chaos.

Joining Statham in this fight are Wu Jing, Sienna Guillory, Cliff Curtis, Skyler Samuels, Page Kennedy, Shuya Sophia Cai, and Sergio Peris-Mencheta.

Meg 2: The Trench hits theaters on August 4th.
