Just days ago, Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige confirmed that we’d be seeing fewer Marvel shows on Disney+, as the company begins to reassess its release strategy. So how is that going to play out for fans who are expecting multiple series to arrive this year?
THR says “There is going to be a level of rigor on Marvel and across the entire company. Numbers matter now, and costs are going to be outlined and enforced.”
An interesting way to launch into Phase 5, which begins tomorrow with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The output has steadily increased for Marvel over the years. Phase 4 had 18 projects in total, 8 of them Disney+ shows.
Feige revealed five new shows for 2023 during last summer’s Comic-Con, but it’s looking like maybe two of them will actually arrive in that timeframe. Loki season two and Secret Invasion are definites, according to the report, while Ironheart, Echo, and Agatha: Coven of Chaos are likely to get pushed into 2024.
Other projects, such as Nova and Daredevil: Born Again, could see wider gaps in time before they are released.
As for Star Wars, things don’t seem to be changing much, although Lucasfilm will have to abide by the same fiscal discipline as the rest of the company.” We could see changes impact them as a result. The film side of Star Wars is in a state of flux, anyway.
This is all part and parcel to Disney focusing its strategy on proven commodities, such as the recently announced sequels to Toy Story, Zootopia, and Frozen. Even the Mouse House has to tighten its belt nowadays.
