Marvel Studios is in a good place right now, with solid response to Thunderbolts* and genuine excitement for The Fantastic Four: First Steps and the next Avengers movies. But there’s more on the MCU slate for this year, and the next big Disney+ series is the long-awaited Ironheart, produced by Ryan Coogler and a spinoff of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the film that introduced Riri Williams.
A new Ironheart trailer gives our best look at Dominique Thorne’s return as Riri Williams, the MIT genius who was a big part in Wakanda’s victory against Namor. But things aren’t going great for Riri now that she’s back home in Chicago, and she ends up entangled with super-powered crime boss The Hood, a major Marvel villain played by Anthony Ramos.
The series also has roles for Alden Ehrenreich (possibly as the son of Obadiah Stane?), Lyric Ross, Jim Rash, Shea Coulee, Cree Summer, Manny Montana, Paul Calderon, and Sacha Baron Cohen possibly as the villain Mephisto. It’s Mephisto, who is basically the Marvel equivalent of the Devil, that gave The Hood his mystical powers.
Created and exec-produced by Chinaka Hodge, with episodes directed by Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes, Ironheart hits Disney+ on June 24th.
