‘The Flash’: Ezra Miller’s Fate Is Still Up In The Air Following DC Studios Plan Reveal

Now that the opening 10 projects, 5 films and 5 series, have been revealed from James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios plan, there are a couple of things that are a bit clearer. First, The Flash will indeed use a time travel storyline device to reset things going forward. Second, this won’t be a total reboot of the DCEU because some aspects are carrying over, such as Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller.

But there is one big chestnut just hanging out there. What happens to Ezra Miller as the Flash? The film was meant to launch a long-running franchise, then Miller became the unfortunate subject of numerous legal troubles that put it all in jeopardy. After some concern The Flash might not be released at all, it has instead undergone numerous rewrites and reshoots to become this catalyst for change within the DC Universe. Does that mean Miller’s job is safe?

Speaking with Deadline, DC Studios co-chief Peter Safran opened up about the Ezra Miller situation. The suggestion is that Miller could stick around if their recovery continues to go well…

“Ezra is completely committed to their recovery. We’re fully supportive of that journey that they’re on right now,” said Safran. “When the time is right, when they feel they are ready to have the discussion, we’ll all figure out what the best way forward is. But right now, they are completely focused on their recovery.”

Safran added, “And in our conversations with them over the last couple of months, it feels like they’re making enormous progress.”

Hardly a definitive answer. Gunn doesn’t make it any clearer, concluding with “We’re figuring it all out.”

It would be incredible if Miller, of all people, is the only one to survive this major transition. Henry Cavill is already out, and we’ve heard nothing about the fates of Jason Momoa, Gal Gadot, Zachary Levi, or Margot Robbie, arguably the biggest stars they’ve got.

This is going to be interesting, and it’s just the beginning.
