Amazon To Debut ‘The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power’ In Theaters Ahead Of Streaming Premiere

Amazon is set to debut The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Prime Video streaming next month. But eager fans who can’t wait for the journey to Middle-Earth will have a chance to see it a couple of days early…on the big screen.

Amazon has struck a deal with Cinemark to show the first two episodes in theaters for one night only on August 31st. The series will then hit Prime Video streaming on September 2nd.

This is seen as a nod to Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings movies, which were not only critically acclaimed but were huge successes at the theatrical box office.

The Rings of Power is a prequel to The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, both storylines Jackson brought to the big screen. The series will be the first to adapt JRR Tolkien’s Second Age, set thousands of years before events in The Lord of the Rings. While generally peaceful, it also a time that sees the rise of the evil Sauron and the forging of the rings of power.
