‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’ Sinks ‘Titanic’ For 3rd-Biggest Movie Ever

Remember a few months ago when James Cameron said Avatar: The Way of Water needed to be “the third or fourth highest-grossing film in history” just to be considered successful? And we all kinda scoffed and figured that was an out-of-reach goal because surely nobody cares about Avatar anymore? Well, Jim Cam has made all of the experts look foolish yet again.

Avatar 2 has hit $2.2444B billion at the global box office, officially moving into 3rd-place on the all-time list. Surpassing…*checks notes*  James Cameron’s Titanic with $2.2431B billion. Titanic was re-released into theaters recently and, while it performed extraordinarily well, it wasn’t enough to keep back the popularity of Cameron’s Na’vi sequel.

It’s doubtful we’ll see this film move up any further. At #2 is Avengers: Endgame with a still-incredible $2.799B billion, while #1 is…*checks notes again* James Cameron’s Avatar with $2.92B billion.

Cameron now owns three of the top five biggest movies ever made. With at least three more Avatar sequels coming, what are the chances he owns ALL of the top five?
