James Franco To Make His Comeback In Billie August’s ‘Me, You’

The last feature film we saw led by James Franco was Zeroville, which was released in 2019 but actually shot back in 2014 (!). Other recent roles in The Deuce and The Pretenders are the last we’ve actually seen of him, since he took time away after sexual misconduct allegations emerged. Well, it was inevitable that he would start some kind of comeback, and that time is now. Franco will star in Billie August’s new drama, Me, You.

THR reports Franco will star in Me, You alongside Tom Hollander and Daisy Jacob. Adapted from the novel Tu, Mia by author Erri De Luca, set in post-WWII Naples where a 16-year-old sails the waters alongside a “hardened fisherman” played by Franco. His life is changed forever when he falls in love with an enigmatic 20-year-old woman with a painful past.

August is known for his acclaimed films Pelle the Conqueror and The Best Intentions. Greg Latter (Goodbye Bafana) wrote the script.

It remains to be seen if Hollywood is ready to give Franco another shot. I’m a firm believer that everyone has a right to work in their chosen profession, but it’s up to us whether we want to support that endeavor. Franco can make all of the movies he wants, but if nobody pays for them none of it will matter.
