Ooooh those scamps at Disney! Last week they made a bunch of Star Wars announcements, including a pair of The Mandalorian spinoffs. And yet they managed to hold one back from us, knowing it would be revealed in today’s season 2 finale. Get ready for SPOILERS!!!
So at the end of today’s season two finale of The Mandalorian, titled “The Rescue”, a post-credits scene saw Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) raiding the former lair of Jabba the Hutt. His criminal empire has been taken over by his lackey, Bib Fortuna, but not for long as Fett drops him with a blaster shot. Fett then takes the literal throne, with Shand by his side. What followed is a caption that read…
“THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT…. COMING DECEMBER 2021.”
Recently, we had heard rumors of a Boba Fett miniseries that would be filming in a matter of days, before The Mandalorian season 3. That’s now been confirmed, and it appears to be about Fett ruling the criminal underworld, which sounds absolutely fucking amazing. In his few appearances this season, Fett has made it VERY clear that he’s not a Mandalorian aligned with anybody. He’s in this for himself, and that will be fascinating to see play out.
I guess it’s always possible The Book of Boba Fett turns out to be a movie, it’s not been spelled out. Whatever it is, it will be followed quickly by The Mandalorian‘s third season, which Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy has said will arrive by Christmas 2021.
