The New Mutants is finally hitting theaters tomorrow, and I’ll be first in line to see it tonight. The X-Men are my jam, and the junior leaguers among my all-time favorites. For director Josh Boone, it has to be a bittersweet experience considering the long delays and the initial plans for an extended franchise, the latter almost guaranteed to not happen. That said, Boone doesn’t want this to be the end of his run with Marvel characters, and has an idea which team he’d like to tackle next.
Speaking with Screen Rant, Boone says he’d love to do a Power Pack movie, a family-friendly one set in the MCU.
“My favorite thing that I read every issue of to my daughter when she was growing up was [‘Power Pack’]. I do love ‘Power Pack’… I think like a kids’ Marvel movie would be awesome, with the aliens coming and all the dueling alien races, giving them their powers and all that. That would be so much fun.”
Hey now, why, that sounds almost exactly like the kind of Power Pack movie Marvel was said to be planning some years back, given some level of confirmation by Kevin Feige shortly thereafter.
As I’ve said every time one of these Power Pack rumors pops up, they were the superteam that initially got into comics, right alongside the X-Men. In fact, they were both in the first comic I ever read. Power Pack is a lot like the Fantastic Four in that they are a family of heroes, with stories mostly following the super-powered siblings Alex, Julie, Jack, and Katie Power.
We’ll have to wait and see how this shakes out. We don’t really know how Marvel and Kevin Feige feel about Boone or The New Mutants right now, but a lot obviously depends on fan reaction to that movie if the director has a future with the MCU.
