‘The New Mutants’ Teaser Confirms Comic-Con @ Home Panel, But Where’s The Release Date?

This year’s Comic-Con @ Home has been pretty short on big announcements. Normally, I’m running down the daily schedule in anticipation of major panels, but there’s been little to strike up my excitement. Until now, that is, because 20th Century Studios have revealed The New Mutants will have a panel Thursday, July 23rd at 2pm PT with the entire cast included.

As part of this announcement, an awesome new teaser has dropped, as well. While less than a minute long, it shows off the movie’s horror elements as the team of young mutants are trapped inside of a deadly psychiatric facility. We also see the Demon Bear, and more of Illyana (Anya Taylor-Joy) traveling into the Hellish landscape known as Limbo.  The film also stars Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga, Blu Hunt and Henry Zaga.

The film was shot back in 2017 by writer/director Josh Boone, and the production issues ever since are well-known. Mostly, the hold-up has been that it was originally meant to be an X-Men movie for Fox, but when the company was sold to Disney it was left unmoored. While the August 28th release date has been pretty solid, it’s still unclear if that will hold. This teaser makes no mention of the release date at all, actually. I feel like there’s still a good chance it could end up on Disney+.
