James Gunn Is Already Writing His ‘Man Of Tomorrow’ Follow-Up, But Is It ‘Superman 3’ Or Something Else?

James Gunn is a busy guy, always has been. Lately it’s increased tenfold. Gunn, a Big Brother superfan, was on the show recently, as he tends to do, leading up to the big finale. He really should enter Celebrity Big Brother next time.  Anyway, he’s also, for now, survived the big Paramount/WB merger that briefly put DC Studios in jeopardy. Seems like he and Peter Safran are good to go. Now, Gunn has confirmed he’s already writing his follow-up to next year’s Man of Tomorrow.

Gunn revealed the update on social media, of course, while chatting with fans. Seems like a Man of Tomorrow teaser could be arriving shortly, too.

So is this Superman 3? Or something new altogether? That would be my guess as it makes the most sense. It’s too soon for something like Justice League, isn’t it? I’d rather he do a Justice Society movie, as the pieces (Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific) are already in place. Or perhaps Gunn goes in a more offbeat direction, something closer to Creature Commandos or Suicide Squad? I guess there’s a chance he’s doing a World’s Finest film, but shouldn’t he give Batman a proper intro first? Who knows the actual status of The Brave and the Bold, the Batman/Robin movie Andy Muschietti is supposedly directing.

As for Man of Tomorrow, it arrives on July 9th 2027. It’s the sequel to 2025’s Superman, which earned a respectable $618M and solid reviews. The film will find David Corenswet’s Superman and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor forced to team up against the alien threat of Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger.
