- Spider-Man: Brand New Day- $145M/$655M
After the biggest opening weekend of all-time, Spider-Man: Brand New Day just kept on swinging with a second week that is the third-best ever, and is stronger than the debuts of Tom Holland’s first two Spidey movies. With $145M, the film fell 60% from last week but kept an astonishing per site average of $32K. After two weeks, the $655M is actually ahead of Avengers: Endgame‘s $621M at this stage, and already ranks as the fifth best domestic earner for the MCU, with Avengers: Infinity War‘s $678M likely to be passed by tomorrow. Overseas, it has already crossed the $1B mark, for a worldwide total of $1.65B.
2. The Odyssey– $31.5M/$461.1M
After four weeks, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has crossed $1B globally, and with $1.1B has become the greatest earner of his storied career.
3. One Night Only (review)- $5.7M
Universal took a big swing with One Night Only, the high-concept rom-com that is basically The Purge for sex comedies. Led by charming leads Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner, the film failed to connect with audiences and critics alike, earning just $5.7M.
4. Super Troopers 3– $4M
Searchlight Pictures dusted off the Broken Lizard comedy troupe for Super Troopers 3, and it seems nobody really cared. The cop comedy earned just $4M at 2,760 theaters, which is considerably less than the $15M by Super Troopers 2 in 2018. Critics didn’t really dig this return, holding it at just 49% fresh on RT, while audiences didn’t dig it either at 71%. I got some emails asking where my review of it was, and the truth is that I have never liked Super Troopers so I skipped this one. The simple joys of running my own shop. That said, I’m not totally against the BL crew. Club Dread is pretty damn funny.
5. Toy Story 5– $3.9M/$470.3M
6. Minions & Monsters– $3.5M/$176.3M
7. Moana– $2.8M/$121.4M
8. Ice Cream Man (review)- $2M
Eli Roth returned to the world of gory NC-17 horror with Ice Cream Man, about a sadistic purveyor of sweet treats who turns kids into murderous zombies. The self-distributed film opened in 1,678 sites and earned $2M domestic with an additional $1.6M overseas.
9. The Invite– $717K/$24.2M
10. CatVideoFest2026– $568K
Also…A24 released its anticipated Anthony Bourdain biopic, Tony, starring Dominic Sessa, in six theaters for $348K. It’s a strong start for a film about a beloved cultural figure, and it will be interesting to see how it does in expansion. My review for that is this week.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle-produced documentary Cookie Queens (review) opened in 446 sites by Roadside Attractions, earning just $327K. I think the draw for this one is over the long haul and on digital. It’s a good film that will make you look at Cookie Season in a different way.
MUBI released the critically acclaimed Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma (review), the follow-up to director Jane Schoenbrun’s I Saw the TV Glow. The horror riff led by Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson earned $251K from 5 locations.
