Mackenzie Foy is probably still known best for making a Hell of an impression at a young age in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn as Renesmee. Since then, she has impressed in Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, and starred in Christopher Nolan’s 2014 sci-fi classic, Interstellar. But now she embarks on her most mature role, and her first Western ever, in The Isolate Thief (review), a chilly survival thriller set during the Civil War.
Foy stars as Ada, a young woman living alone at a frozen Union outpost in Oregon, following the death of her father. While she has dreams of moving west to San Francisco, the arrival of a fleeing thief, the discovery of a cache of hidden gold, and the intrusion of a gang of outlaws throw her life into chaos. The leader of that gang, Fiddler John, is played by screen legend Sean Bean. Ada and John engage in a tense power struggle and game of deception that threatens to consume them both.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Mackenzie Foy about The Isolate Thief, and we talked about what drew her to the role of Ada, and her appreciation for classic movie Westerns. The film was also the most violent of her career, which led to her using guns on the screen for the first time. Of course, we also talked about the chemistry she shared with Sean Bean, and what she was able to take from working with him.
The Isolate Thief is available in theaters now.
