The Odyssey packed a lot of butts in seats over the weekend, and likely will for quite some time. But the buzz emanating from theaters is about more than Christopher Nolan’s epic, because audiences got a chance to see the trailer for Other Mommy, a new horror starring Jessica Chastain in her return to the genre after Mama and It: Chapter Two.
Other Mommy is directed by Rob Savage, known for the clever horror flick Host and Stephen King adaptation The Boogeyman. The film also boasts James Wan and Jason Blum of Blumhouse Atomic Monster, who are riding high on the successes of Obsession and Backrooms.
The premise is pretty damn creepy, too. In the new trailer, we see Chastain talking to her daughter about her poor choice of ice cream for lunch. It’s a lightearted exchange between the two…until it’s not. Suddenly, the mood shifts as mom’s questioning grows more sinister. You can see the rest for yourself, but like I said, there’s a reason why audiences have been buzzing about this one.
Also in the cast are Jay Duplass, Arabella Olivia Clark , Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed, and Indiana Jones veteran Karen Allen.
Here’s the synopsis: A terrifying trip into the darkening world of a young girl, Bela (Clark), who forms a relationship with a sinister entity in her home who looks uncannily like her own mother (Chastain).
Nathan Elston’s script is adapted from the book Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman.
Could we be looking at the next horror smash to hit in 2026? Universal Pictures sure hopes so, and will release Other Mommy in theaters on October 9th.
