After she was rumored a couple of months ago, Anya Taylor-Joy has been confirmed to join Andy Serkis’ The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. Warner Bros. revealed the news on social media, while Variety adds that she’ll play Seren, “a Sindar Elf of the Woodland Realm, who is described as “a trusted and lethal agent of King Thranduil.”
Taylor-Joy joins Serkis, who will write, direct, and return to star as Gollum. Also returning are Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Elijah Wood as Frodo, and Lee Pace as King Thranduil. Fellow new additions to the franchise are Kate Winslet as Marigol, Leo Woodall as Halvard, and Jamie Dornan who replaces Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn/Strider.
The Hunt for Gollum is expected to open on December 17th 2027. It’s set just before the Fellowship of the Ring period, with Gandalf sending Aragorn on a quest to find Gollum.
It’s good to see that the underperformance of Furiosa last year hasn’t hurt Taylor-Joy with Warner Bros. Not only is she now part of the vaunted LOTR franchise, but she’s also in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films, with the third wrapping up the trilogy this December.
