For the first time since 2013’s Rush, Chris Hemsworth is returning to the world of high-speed racing action. Deadline reports he’ll star in a new film that promises to bring Australia’s wild Tatts Finke Desert Race to the big screen.
Hemsworth and Ben Grayson’s Wild State production label have entered into a partnership with Australia’s Tatts Finke Desert Race to develop multiple projects on the unusual two-day motorsport event, including a film that will star the actor. Ricky Staub and Dan Walser are penning the script, as the project remains very early in development.
“Off road racing has been a passion in my family for a long time and we at Wild State are thrilled to partner with the Tatts Finke Desert Race on the eve of its 50th anniversary and bring this epic competition to a global audience,” says Hemsworth.
The timing is just right, too, as June marks the 50th anniversary of the desert race, which is recognized as the most exciting off road racing event in Australia, with a reputation for being notoriously difficult.
It’s unclear who will direct, but don’t be surprised if it’s an Australian filmmaker. That seems to be where they’re going with this one.
Hemsworth was recently seen in the star-studded Crime 101, and will return as Thor in Avengers: Doomsday.
