Chris Hemsworth Teases Future Post-‘Doomsday’ Appearances That Will Be “Wild”

Chris Hemsworth is the only Marvel actor to take his character beyond three solo movies, the fourth being 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder. He’s also played the god of thunder in other MCU films, and will return for Avengers: Doomsday. In short, Hemsworth doesn’t seem to be going anywhere for now. In fact, he admitted as such in a recent interview on the Smartless podcast.

Co-host Sean Hayes talked about Avengers: Doomsday being Hemsworth’s tenth appearance as Thor, prompting the actor to respond that he’ll be back a “couple more times” adding, “Yeah, it’s wild.”

It’s likely that one of those appearances will be in Avengers: Secret Wars, as Thor is clearly a crucial character throughout Marvel’s huge storyline. But there’s also a chance we could see him in a fifth solo Thor movie.

Hemsworth continued by talking about the real fun of playing Thor, and it’s that he’s never had to stick with one version. Different directors and stories have called for crazy evolutions of the Asgardian…

“It’s been so much fun. And what I’ve really enjoyed it—unlike a lot of what the other characters that the [actors] were given, they have had to be pretty consistent— whereas working with Taika Waititi on his films versus Kenneth Branagh with those films and then with the Russos, all [the films] had quite a different sort of tonal opinion,” Hemsworth said. “But [the Russos] also let me try different things. It’s the same with my tattoos, I’d be getting really bored [with] the same thing and having a real need to kind of throw [the performance] in different directions.”

As far as different directions go, Hemsworth teased that we haven’t seen the last of them…

“I was talking to Kevin Feige about it, and he said it’s cool because the audience now expects dramatic turns with the character. And whatever we do next—we’ve got some ideas to do something pretty unique again and hopefully be [different].”

Thor will return for Avengers: Doomsday on December 18th.
