Tragic news today as we learn of James Van Der Beek’s death at the young age of 48. He was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2023.
Van Der Beek was best known for his role as Dawson Leery in Dawson’s Creek for six seasons. His impressive list of film credits include Varsity Blues, Texas Rangers, Labor Day, Bad Hair, and my personal favorite, The Rules of Attraction. He also had fun playing a comedic version of himself twice in Kevin Smith’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and sequel Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.
His family announced the passing on social media:
“Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.”
