‘The Catch’: Chris Pine Eyes Rom-Com With Emma Stone That Sounds Like The Steve Bartman Story

Emma Stone already has six acting Oscar nominations and won twice. She could win again this year for Bugonia, her latest collab with director Yorgos Lanthimos. We already know what she’ll be doing after that. A couple of years ago she signed on to star in an untitled rom-com for Universal that would be directed by her husband, Dave McCary. That project, now known as The Catch, may have just landed her co-star.

Deadline reports that Chris Pine is circling the co-lead role in The Catch, opposite Stone. The site has no official news on the plot, other than it has a script by Patrick Kang and Michael Levin.

However, scooper Daniel Richtman says The Catch is basically the Steve Bartman story, with Stone playing a baseball fan who accidentally touches a fly ball, turning it into a home run that costs her home team a key game. She then has to deal with the fallout of her actions, such as the guilt and unwanted attention.

I’m not sure how this becomes a rom-com, but I dig the premise. Pine is coming off another rom-com, Carousel (review here), which premiered at Sundance last month.
