McKenna Grace Lands Daphne Role In Netflix’s Live-Action ‘Scooby-Doo’ Series

Zoinks!! Netflix’s upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series from Greg Berlanti has just landed its first cast member, and she’s a doozy. Variety reports McKenna Grace has scored the role of Daphne Blake, the wealthiest and most fashionable member of the Mystery Inc. gang.

This new take on Scooby-Doo will center on younger versions of the well-known gang and reveal how they first met one another and formed Mystery Inc. We’re still waiting to find out who will fill the other roles of Velma, Shaggy, Fred, and of course, good ol’ Scooby-Doo.

This is a return role for Grace, who voiced a young Daphne in Scoob!, the animated film released by Warner Bros. in 2020. She would’ve returned for a sequel but it was canceled after the disappointing box office.

Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg serve as writers and showrunners and will also executive produce along with André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner.

The casting of Grace makes sense and she’s a natural fit for a Berlanti production. She played a young Sabrina Spellman in Berlanti’s long-running series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. I think Netflix’s hope is that Scooby-Doo will appeal to the same audience looking for some spooky stuff with their comedy hijinks.

Grace has plenty of experience with the paranormal, as well, having starred in both recent Ghostbusters movies. She also had a role in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, and will be seen later this year in Scream 7.

Scooby-Doo has been picked up for an eight episode run. Here’s the synopsis:

“During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne (Grace) get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
