‘Relationship Goals’ Trailer: Method Man And Kelly Rowland Star In Prime Video Rom-Com Next Month

There have been more than a few rappers who have made it big as actors. Obviously, LL Cool J springs to mind, so do Ice-T, Ice Cube, Ludacris, and others. But let’s show some love for Wu-Tang Clan original Cliff “Method Man” Smith, who has been killing it in front of the camera since he first popped up in The Great White Hype in 1996. And now he’s starring in what I think is his first romantic-comedy lead role, opposite Kelly Rowland, in Amazon MGM’s Relationship Goals.

Marking the feature debut of Emmy-nominated director Linda Mendoza (30 Rock), Relationship Goals is based on Pastor Michael Todd’s book. Rowland plays a woman about to make a major career breakthrough, only to have her ex, played by Method Man, show up and compete for the same gig. Sparks fly, of course.

Also in the cast are Robin Thede, Dennis Haysbert and Annie Gonzalez. The script was penned by Michael Elliot, Cory Tynan and Laura Lekkos.

SYNOPSIS: When brilliant TV producer Leah Caldwell (Rowland) is about to make history as the first woman to run New York’s top morning show, her ex Jarrett Roy (Method Man) swoops in to compete for the same position. He claims he’s a changed man, transformed by the wisdom of the New York Times bestselling book ‘Relationship Goals.’ As her tight-knit circle of friends dive into the same life-changing book, they all begin to rediscover their aim in love. Yet Leah, laser-focused on breaking through the glass ceiling, isn’t ready to believe in finding love—even as her undeniable chemistry with her ex threatens to reignite old flames.

Relationship Goals hits Prime Video on February 4th.
