‘Tangled’: Fan Wishlists Win As Disney Casts Kathryn Hahn As Mother Gothel In Live-Action Remake

Disney fans wanted it, and now they’ve got it. After numerous wishlists asking for Kathryn Hahn to play Mother Gothel in Disney’s live-action Tangled, the WandaVision star and multi-time Emmy nominee has officially landed the role. Not only that, but actors playing Rapunzel and Flynn Rider have also been cast.

Deadline reports Teagan Croft has scored the lead role of Rapunzel, with Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider. Rider is the roguish thief who helps Rapunzel escape her tower prison.

Fans began clamoring for Hahn to take the role of Mother Gothel when Scarlett Johansson, who had been attached, had to drop out. Gothel is the villain who holds Rapunzel captive to use her magical healing properties to stay forever young. She was voiced in the 2010 animated hit by singer Donna Murphy.

Tangled had actually been put on hold by Disney last year, following the disastrous response to Snow White. But, when Lilo & Stitch emerged as a $1B hit, Disney was emboldened to put Tangled back on track, with Michael Gracey (The Last Showman) directing from Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s script.
