With Quentin Tarantino’s long-awaited Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair set to hit theaters in a few days, one of the oddest crossovers ever will finally reveal a chapter that’s been missing for twenty years. Tarantino cut the animated sequence, The Lost Chapter: Yuki’s Revenge, from the film for length and budget purposes, but now the 10-minute short has arrived via Fortnite. That’s right, the video game juggernaut, before appearing in theaters alongside the director’s cut of Kill Bill on December 5th.
In early versions of Kill Bill, the animated sequence was to take place after The Bride’s vicious fight with Vernita Green. A violent interlude would take place involving Yuki, the vengeful sister of the dearly departed Gogo Yubari, serving as a bridge between the domestic and Japanese portions of the film.
Uma Thurman returns as the voice of The Bride, with Miyu Ishidate Roberts introduced as the voice of Yuki.
As seen in the footage, Yuki, after getting a bit of assistance, hunts down The Bride to a cheap hotel where they engage in an insane chase and shootout. The sequence was created using Fortnite‘s graphics engine, replicating the look (and humor) of the game.
Speaking with Variety, Tarantino talked about the decision to collaborate with Fortnite and finally getting to see this scene brought to life…
“I get to do my ‘Yuki’s Revenge,’” Tarantino explained. “It would be a different story if Epic Games came to me and said, ‘Can you come up with something new to do with Kill Bill?’ I’m not saying that wouldn’t be cool, but it wouldn’t be organic… This is a lost chapter that I always wanted to see the light of day, and now it has.”
