Brad Anderson, one of my favorite directors for his work on Transsiberian, The Machinist, and The Call, is back and I’m excited to see it. Worldbreaker is a post-apocalyptic creature flick starring Resident Evil‘s Milla Jojovich, Dracula Untold‘s Luke Evans, and A Small Light‘s Billie Boullet. With the January 30th release date coming up, Aura Entertainment has dropped a new trailer for what looks like one of the biggest worlds Anderson has ever created.
Here’s the synopsis: After the Breakers rose—monsters that infect and twist their victims—men fell first, leaving women to lead the fight. Willa’s mother is one of the war’s fiercest warriors; her father, a battle-scarred veteran, hides with Willa on a remote island, training her to survive. Their fragile peace is shattered when a mysterious girl drifts ashore. Willa, longing for connection, shelters her in secret—until the truth emerges and danger follows. With Breakers closing in, Willa must rely on her father’s training and her own courage to survive.
If you had told me Worldbreaker was a Paul W.S. Anderson movie rather than a Brad Anderson movie, I’d believe you. It looks like another Jojovich collaboration with her filmmaker husband, and I was surprised not to see his name anywhere in the credits, even as a producer. I’m saying all of this as a positive because I tend to like their movies together. Also, Brad Anderson is a chameleon and adept at directing many different genres.
Jojovich and Brad Anderson are due to reunite for Twilight of the Dead, based on a manuscript by the late George A. Romero. So clearly, this partnership is working out on a creative level.
