The Legend of Zelda is coming to the big screen for the first time, and with production underway, Nintendo and Sony Pictures have released the first official stills of Wes Ball’s live-action film. The trio of images (via IGN) show stars Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as the heroic adventurer, Link.
Shooting is taking place right now in New Zealand, with the lush natural landscape making the perfect location for the land of Hyrule. It also served as Middle-Earth in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings movies.
It also appears that Dichen Lachman (Agents of SHIELD) has been spotted on set, and will take on the role of Impa.
Derek Connolly (Safety Not Guaranteed) and T.S. Newlin (The Maze Runner) will write The Legend of Zelda screenplay, which centers on young hero Link as he adventures through the land of Hyrule to defeat the evil Ganon and save Princess Zelda.
The most recent game in the ‘Zelda’ franchise, Tears of the Kingdom, was a massive hit for the Nintendo Switch in 2023. A spinoff game, Echoes of Wisdom, features Zelda as the protagonist and was releases for the Switch in 2024.
The Legend of Zelda hits theaters on May 7th 2027 by Sony Pictures.
