This one’s still a rumor, and coming from scooper Daniel Richtman, so judge it for yourself. It’s getting a ton of traction, though, so there might be some truth to it. The report is that Euphoria and Cuckoo actress Hunter Schafer is being sought to play Princess Zelda in Nintendo and Sony’s live-action The Legend of Zelda movie.
With production expected to begin later this year, it makes sense that some casting news start bubbling up. Still, it’s been very quiet on this movie lately, since it was given a March 26th 2027 release date. It was first announced by Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto back in 2023. The Maze Runner and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes director Wes Ball is behind the camera. On the screenplay is Derek Connolly, best known for the Jurassic World movies, Detective Pikachu, and Safety Not Guaranteed.
Schafer would be a solid choice. She definitely has the look to play Zelda. She’d fit right in as a citizen of Hyrule. If she is who they go with, it means a slightly older version of Link, too, rather than the childlike version that has also been seen in the games.
This would be the biggest film role for Schafer if it pans out. She recently had a key role in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and Yorgos Lanthimos’ Kinds of Kindness.
