Every world leader likes to project an air of toughness. Look at our current occupant of the White House. He’s a beta male who acts like a tough guy. Well, what if our world leaders were more like John Cena and Idris Elba in the new Prime Video action-comedy Heads of State? That’d be pretty cool, I think. They could fight off terrorists all by themselves. Well, maybe with a little help from Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
A final trailer for Heads of State finds Cena and Elba, Suicide Squad co-stars reunited, as the President of the United States and the U.K. Prime Minister, respectively. Chopra Jonas plays MI6 agent helping them stay alive against a foreign terrorist threat.
Also in the cast are Jack Quaid (The Boys), plus Paddy Considine (House of the Dragon), Sarah Niles (Ted Lasso), Stephen Root (Office Space), Richard Coyle (Coupling), and Carla Gugino (Spy Kids).
The film is directed by Ilya Naishuller, the Russian filmmaker who is making serious moves in the action genre. Naishuller previously helmed Hardcore Henry and the Bob Odenkirk hit, Nobody. Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec co-wrote the script with Harrison Query.
SYNOPSIS: In the action-comedy “Heads of State,” the UK Prime Minister Sam Clarke (Idris Elba) and U.S. President Will Derringer (John Cena) have a not-so-friendly and very public rivalry that jeopardizes their countries’ “special relationship.” But when they become the targets of a powerful and ruthless foreign adversary, who proves more than a match for the two leaders’ security forces, they are begrudgingly forced to rely on the only two people they can trust: each other. Ultimately allied with the brilliant MI6 agent Noel Bisset (Priyanka Chopra Jonas), they must go on the run and find a way to work together long enough to thwart a global conspiracy that threatens the entire free world.
Heads of State hits Prime Video on July 2nd.
