Following the success of their most recent film, Sasquatch Sunset, the Zellner Brothers set out to direct the sci-fi comedy, Alpha Gang. An A-list cast was assembled, but the project was delayed and many of those originally attached have been recast. However, it’s a lateral move because the new additions are great, too.
Originally attached to Alpha Gang were Cate Blanchett, Dave Bautista, Steven Yeun, Zoë Kravitz, Léa Seydoux, Riley Keough, and Channing Tatum. Unfortunately, Kravitz, Keough, Tatum, and Yeun are out. Taking their place are Chris Pine, Lily-Rose Depp, and Adria Arjona, while Blanchett and Seydoux remain. It’s unclear if Bautista is still on board because he’s not mentioned in World of Reel‘s report.
I’ll note another rumor floating around out there that says Bae Doona (Rebel Moon) could be joining the ensemble, as well.
Alpha Gang follows a group of alien invaders who come to earth disguised as a ’50s-era biker gang, only to have their plans for world domination complicated by human emotions.
This is a project the Zellners have been working on for years. An earlier version had Jon Hamm, Nicholas Hoult, Andrea Riseborough, Mackenzie Davis, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Sofia Boutella. That version has obviously fallen through.
Pine has kept a low profile since 2023 when he starred in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and Poolman. Depp was recently seen in Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu, while Arjona was a key figure in both seasons of Andor as Bix Caleen.
