It’s time to get reacquainted with the Fockers. It’s been 14 years, but a fourth Meet the Parents movie is reportedly in the works at Universal Pictures. Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Teri Polo, and Blythe Danner are all in early talks to return and revive the comedy franchise that began in 2000 and has earned $1.1B worldwide.
Franchise writer John Hamburg will return to pen the script. He not only wrote Meet the Parents, but its 2004 sequel Meet the Fockers and the third film Little Fockers in 2010. The laughs (and I use that word loosely) center on Greg Focker, a hapless but good-hearted male nurse who royally screws up the first meeting with his girlfriend Pam Byrne’s parents. Greg eventually wins over his in-laws, only for the second film to introduce his own wacky parents played by Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streisand. It’s unclear if they will return for the fourth movie. The same goes for Owen Wilson who played Pam’s arrogant ex-boyfriend Kevin.
Jay Roach, who directed the first two movies and produced all three is expected to produce this one, as well.
With so many years having passed, a fourth movie will likely see Greg and Pam dealing with adult-aged children and the troubles caused by getting older.
Who knows what the title will be? Perhaps Grumpy Old Fockers? Fockers 4 Ever? [Deadline]
