‘The Gorge’ First Look: Anya Taylor-Joy And Miles Teller Are Elite Snipers In Scott Derrickson’s New Film

Announced two years ago, we’ve not learned a lot about The Gorge, the next film from Sinister, The Black Phone, and Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson. Anya Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller boarded the film early, but details have remained scarce other than an early description as a “high-action, genre-bending love story.” But all of that changes today as IGN has debuted the film’s first images, along with plot details and a new poster for the Apple Original.

Also starring Sigourney Weaver, The Gorge features Taylor-Joy and Teller as “elite snipers – one American, the other Lithuanian – stationed in watchtowers on opposite sides of a vast and highly classified gorge located in a faraway land whose exact location they’re not even allowed to know. Their mission? To safeguard the outside world from an undisclosed, mysterious evil that lurks within. They bond from a distance while trying to stay vigilant in defending against an unseen enemy. When the cataclysmic threat to humanity is revealed to them, they must work together in a test of both their physical and mental strength to keep the secret in the gorge before it’s too late.”

The film has a script by Zach Dean, known for previously writing Deadfall, The Tomorrow War, and 24 Hours to Live.

Speaking with IGN, Derrickson said “The Gorge blends multiple genres — romance, science fiction, action, spy thriller and even horror. The idea was to first invest a lot of time into the backstories and evolving connection between the two characters played by Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy, and then see them thrust into survival mode amidst the unrelenting and unpredictable dangers and mysteries of the gorge itself.“

The Gorge will stream exclusively to Apple TV+ in 2025.
