DC Studios Animated Film ‘Dynamic Duo’ To Feature Robins Dick Grayson And Jason Todd

James Gunn continues to reveal new projects for DC Studios and his DCU, and he’s announced one that sounds extremely interesting. Gunn took to social media to announce Dynamic Duo, a DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures Animation collaboration that will center on Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, two heroes who have both been Batman’s sidekick, Robin.

The film will follow “the early days of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd aka the Robins. The duo call themselves the Dynamic Duo. They’re orphan thieves, best friends who share dreams of a better life, but their friendship will be tested by competing visions of a future out of which will come a new Dynamic Duo.”

Directing the project is Arthur Mintz, from a script by Lightyear and Coco writer Matthew Aldrich. Mintz and his wife Theresa Anderson lead the studio Swaybox, which will be doing animation on Dynamic Duo. Swaybox reportedly uses a new technology, “Momo Animation”, described as a mix of CGI, practical effects, stop-motion, and live-action real-time performance to create “visually breathtaking, dynamically expressive, and more human.”

Gunn and Peter Safran will produce through DC Studios, while Matt Reeves will produce through his 6th and Idaho banner.

Reeves’ presence does not put Dynamic Duo in the same universe as Reeves’ The Batman, though. It’s unclear where the film fits, as Gun has not explicitly stated it to be DCU canon.

Gunn said on his Instagram“Over the moon excited to announce the newest DC Studios/Warner Bros Pictures Animation greenlit film for theaters, DYNAMIC DUO, the story of Robin… or should I say, Robins, as in Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. The first feature film from the visionary Swaybox, a mix of animation, puppetry, and CGI, a script from the wonderfully talented Matt Aldrich, produced with our partners at Matt Reeves’ 6th and Idaho. This is something special.”
