Michael B. Jordan Will Now Direct And Star In Amazon’s ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’ Remake

Eight years ago we learned that Michael B. Jordan was attached to star in MGM’s remake of heist classic The Thomas Crown Affair. Some things have changed since then. Amazon MGM is behind the project now, the Russo Brothers no longer seem to be involved as creative overseers, and oh yeah, the film finally has a director. Turns out, they didn’t have to look very far.

Fresh off his record-breaking directorial Creed III, Michael B. Jordan will now direct The Thomas Crown Affair. He’ll continue to produce and star in the film, which will be the third version to hit the big screen. The 1968 classic starred Faye Dunaway and Steve McQueen, while the 1999 remake, one of my all-time favorites, starred Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo.

The story, about a wealthy playboy and part-time art thief who enters a tangled, passionate game of cat-and-mouse with an insurance investigator, will likely find Jordan paired with an A-list co-star.

Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) wrote the most recent script, and he instills a lot more confidence than Wes Tooke (Midway) who wrote the previous draft.

Jordan has been eager to get back behind the camera since directing Creed III to $276M worldwide, the most ever for a first-time filmmaker.  Thomas Crown will likely be Jordan’s next project now that he’s wrapped shooting on Ryan Coogler’s upcoming vampire event film for Warner Bros.  [Deadline]
