‘Alien: Romulus’: Fede Alvarez Guides Us Through The Anticipated Sequel As Tickets Go On Sale

If it feels a little bit like today is “Alien: Romulus Day”, that’s for good reason. Tickets have gone on sale for the anticipated Alien movie, directed by Evil Dead‘s Fede Alvarez as a sequel set between Ridley Scott’s Alien and James Cameron’s Aliens. That’s pretty good company to be in, and 20th Century Studios hopes the film can be a revival of the franchise. And to do that, Alvarez is going back to its horror roots.

A new trailer/featurette has Alvarez guiding us through his vision for Alien: Romulus. The story follows a group of young space colonists who uncover a derelict space station overrun by the familiar xenomorph.

Gone are the huge stars that didn’t help the box office of Prometheus or Alien: Covenant. In their place are young, up ‘n coming actors including Cailee Spaeny (Civil War), David Jonsson (Rye Lane), Archie Renaux (Shadow & Bone), Isabela Merced (Madame Web), Spike Fearn (Aftersun), and Aileen Wu in her first major role.

Ridley Scott remains aboard as a producer. If all goes well, we could be on the verge of an Alien renaissance along with Noah Hawley’s FX series.

Alvarez, who proved with Evil Dead that he can do a lot with very little, appears to have brought that mentality to Alien: Romulus. The emphasis is on establishing mood, tone, and an ominous atmosphere.

Alien: Romulus opens in theaters and IMAX on August 16th. You can preorder IMAX tickets here now, and if you still love the Funko Pops you can get the first wave of figures from our friends at Entertainment Earth here!
