‘Inside Out’ Series Spinoff Confirmed, Will Explore Riley’s Dreams

After breaking box office records during its opening weekend, Inside Out 2 is one of the biggest movies of the year and the hit that Disney/Pixar needed. While speculation is that a sequel will probably happen sooner rather than later (Inside Out 3: Riley Goes To College?), Pixar’s Pete Docter has confirmed something else will happen first. A spinoff TV series is on the way, and it’s already finished.

Speaking with EW, Docter confirmed that an Inside Out series spinoff is coming, and even teased what it will be about and when we could see it debut…

“We have finished,” confirmed Docter. “It’s coming out next spring. I’m not sure that there’s been a specific release date.”

“In the first film, remember we go to Dream Production to see how Riley’s dreams are made? It semi-explains why they’re so weird,” Docter continued. “We’ve continued the exploration of the power of dreams and how they affect us in our waking life, as well, so it’s pretty cool.”

So we’ll still get a look at what’s going with Riley on the inside affects her on the outside, just in a different part of her mind than the emotion headquarters. In other words, don’t expect to have Amy Poehler and the gang returning to voice the familiar emotions, unless as a special cameo or something.

Do you want more Inside Out that isn’t on the big screen? There’s the danger of giving audiences too much, making each film feel less special. It’s a problem that Marvel has faced over the years, leading to them cutting back on the number of projects. Pixar has earned a lot of trust, though, so we’ll see what happens when the series arrives in 2025.
