Marvel’s ‘X-Men’ Film Lands ‘Songbirds & Snakes’ Writer Michael Lesslie

The mutants are coming! Disney’s acquisition of Fox meant the death of the X-Men franchise as we had known it for two decades, and it will get a proper farewell with Deadpool & Wolverine this summer. After that, the merry team of mutants will emerge into the MCU with a new reboot that we now know will be written by Michael Lesslie.

Confirmed by Deadline, Michael Lesslie has been hired to pen the X-Men reboot for Marvel Studios. Lesslie wrote the recent prequel The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes. We don’t know exactly how Marvel plans to introduce the X-Men, or who will comprise the team, but you can probably bet that Wolverine will be on the team.

The importance of getting this right has been amped up by the success of X-Men ’97. The animated series, a continuation of the beloved cartoon from the ’90s, has been a smashing hit that fans can’t stop talking about. Marvel and Disney knocked it out of the park with that one, and it might be in their favor to recruit some of the creative talent for the live-action film, too.

This is an important first step, and perhaps we’ll learn more about a director soon.
