Marvel Sets ‘Star Trek: Picard’ Showrunner For New ‘Vision’ Series, Paul Bettany To Return

If you want an example of the slowdown on Marvel projects after Disney CEO Bob Iger’s criticisms, look no further than Vision. The Marvel hero who has really been put through the emotional paces for getting so close to humans, was rumored to be the star of a new series, Vision Quest, from WandaVision writer Jac Schaeffer more than two years ago. Whatever happened to that? Well, nothing, and we forgot about it, assuming it had been canceled quietly.

Well, Vision is about to power on again, because Variety reports that Terry Matalas has been hired to act as showrunner for a new untitled series on the synthezoid Avenger in 2026. Paul Bettany will suit up for the role again, naturally. Matalas is probably best known for his Star Trek connections, including as showrunner of Star Trek: Picard season 3, which I’ve heard was the best of the series. He also co-created the 12 Monkeys series for SyFy, and was showrunner on MacGyver season 4 on CBS.

The last we saw of Vision it was in the WandaVision finale. The hex version of Vision, a creation by Wanda herself, battles a reactivated all-white Vision. The two engage in a philosophical chat before Vision gets his memories restored and flies away as the hex version fades into memory. So it stands to reason Matalas’ new show will follow Vision as he deals with his new memories, including that he is an Avenger and any fallout as a result. Could part of his quest be reuniting with Scarlet Witch, who seemingly died in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness?

As for Jac Schaeffer, she’s no longer involved as she is busy on the WandaVision spinoff, Agatha All Along. Don’t be surprised if Vision gets referenced there, too.
