The Ultraman franchise has been going strong for nearly sixty years, but what’s next for the Japanese superhero? That would be Ultraman: Rising, a new Netflix animated film that puts the legendary hero in an unfamiliar position: a parent to a baby kaiju.
In Ultraman: Rising, baseball star Ken Sato dons the mantle of Ultraman to protect Tokyo from monster attack. But his victory comes with a price, as he adopts the 35-foot-tall baby kaiju of a creature he defeated. Good luck balancing fatherhood with monster-fighting!
There’s a ton of talent aboard this film, too. Ultraman was created by Eiji Tsuburaya, one of Godzilla’s co-creators. Behind the camera is director Shannon Tindle, who worked on Laika’s Kubo and the Two Strings with co-writer Marc Haimes.
Christopher Sean voices Sato, the egotistical sports star who transforms into Ultraman.
