‘Arcadian’ Interview: Jaeden Martell And Maxwell Jenkins Talk Battling Monsters With Nicolas Cage

A single father taking care of his two teenage boys as they push against the boundaries he’s set sounds daunting enough. But what happens when the world has been taken over by monsters, and humanity is on the verge of extinction? That’s not going to stop boys from being boys, nor make a Dad’s job any easier. In Ben Brewer’s apocalyptic drama Arcadian, Jaeden Martell and Maxwell Jenkins play brothers whose personalities clash as they bristle under the protection of their father, played by Nicolas Cage.

Part creature feature, part coming-of-age story, Arcadian was an emotional challenge for Martell and Jenkins, who spoke with me about the shoot in Dublin, Ireland. They also discussed finding the brotherly chemistry needed for their performances, how they feel they would do in a real monster invasion, and of course, what it was like sharing the screen with Nicolas Cage.

Arcadian premiered at SXSW, but it opens in theaters on April 12th!
