- Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (review)- $31M/$135M
The Titan’s of Kaiju cinema continue to dominate for the second week in a row, tripling the take of its next closest competitor. Admittedly a slower weekend in the box office but don’t forget that both monsters have a following that’s not limited to the US borders, a $261M total take over two weeks ain’t bad for a couple of 100 year olds.
2. Monkey Man (review) – $10.1M
While Dev Patel’s directorial debut could be seen as a disappointment one can’t forget to include both the critical reception, which has been widely positive, and the budget which sat at right about $10M. While this weekends take (which is $12.1M when worldwide numbers are factored in) may be less then expected, the films sure to make money in the end.
3. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire – $9M/$88.8M
4. The First Omen (review) – $8.3M
I don’t think we’ll ever see the end of satanic horror, but after the box office failures of the two most iconic demonic horror films in existence (this, and The Exorcist’s much maligned prequel) I think it’s safe to say the sub-genre will be taking a back seat for the next few years.

6. Dune: Part Two – $7.2M/$264.8M
7. Someone Like You – $3M
Another Fathom Events film to hit the top 10. It’s so interesting to see the changes in the top contenders in the post-COVID box office. Faith Based films and special events have really found a foothold.
