‘Avengelyne’ Movie In The Works With Olivia Wilde Directing, Margot Robbie And Simon Kinberg Producing

For a time it looked as if Olivia Wilde would follow up Don’t Worry Darling with a Spider-Woman movie, but that film seems to be going nowhere at the moment. So instead, Wilde is teaming up with some heavy hitters on another comic book heroine’s big screen debut.

According to THR, Wilde is teaming up with Margot Robbie and Simon Kinberg on Avengelyne, an adaptation of the once-hot ’90s comic book from Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld. The story centers on a fallen angel cast down to earth to find and protect The One, a person who must defend the world from demons.

Wilde is attached to direct the film, with Robbie producing through her powerful LuckyChap Productions banner, which gave us Barbie, the highest-grossing movie of 2023. Robbie also knows her way around superhero comics and their adaptations, having starred as Harley Quinn in two Suicide Squad films and Birds of Prey. Kinberg is best known as a writer and producer on much of the X-Men franchise at Fox, including the Deadpool films.

Avengelyne has been in development a handful of times in the past. Netflix had struck a deal with Liefeld to turn his Maximum Press library into movies, but nothing ever came of it. A movie starring Gina Carano was once in development but went nowhere. Perhaps now Avengelyne will get her moment to shine? Certainly, with this level of talent attached, the chances are greater than ever.
