‘Scream VII’: Two More Legacy Characters Rumored To Be Returning For Horror Sequel

Reports of the death of the Scream franchise were premature. While it was certainly on life support following the departure of its two biggest stars and director, we recently learned that Scream VII was still happening and that Neve Campbell was returning as Sidney Prescott. Not only that, but franchise scribe Kevin Williamson would be taking over to direct for the first time. Now a new rumor says that two more legacy characters are all but certain to be coming back to face Ghostface one more time.

Take this with a grain of salt, but scooper Daniel Richtman says Courteney Cox is a “lock” to return as Gale Weathers, who miraculously survived a brutal Ghostface attack in Scream 6. Poor Dewey wasn’t so lucky. *sniffle*

Not only that, but apparently Patrick Dempsey will also return as Detective Mark Kincaid. He hasn’t been seen since Scream 3, but in Scream 5 it’s revealed that he and Sidney got married and have kids together. So if she’s coming back, it only makes sense that he would, too. Let’s hope it’s not just for his funeral.

Scream VII doesn’t have a release date, but it will have a script by James Vanderbilt and Gary Busick. How many of the most recent cast will return remains up in the air.
