James Gunn To Co-Lead WB’s DC Studios With Peter Safran

Goodbye DC Films. Hello DC Studios.

From the beginning, Warner Bros. Discovery has been on a mission to find their equivalent to Marvel’s Kevin Feige, someone who can be the creative visionary for their DC Comics projects on the big and small screen. While many names were mentioned, and Dan Lin nearly took the job, we now know it’ll be the duo of James Gunn and Peter Safran.

THR confirms that James Gunn and producer Peter Safran will lead the newly branded DC Studios. Gunn is already a creative force there with The Suicide Squad and his Peacemaker series. He’ll oversee the creative side of things, but also continue to direct various projects. One of those is a potential Superman movie, which the studio is eager to jump on now that Henry Cavill is back in the role.

Safran will take charge of the business and production side. He has been a producer on The Suicide Squad, Shazam!, Aquaman, and other films in the DCEU.

Gunn and Safran are locked in for at least four years. For Gunn, this likely means that his time at Marvel is finished with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and next month’s Holiday Special.
