There has definitely been some positive movement on Marvel’s long-awaited Blade movie with Mahershala Ali. The biggest step forward was the casting of superstar actress Mia Goth, lending credence to the idea that this will lean hard in the horror department. But, it’d be a lie to say that things are going smoothly. The screenplay continues to be an issue, and THR reports that True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto is the latest to take a shot at fixing it.
Pizzolatto becomes at least the fourth writer to try and figure out the Blade story, which explains the long delays and shifted production schedules. Previous scripts were written by Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Michael Starrbury, and Beau DeMayo. It’ll be Starrbury’s screenplay that Pizzolatto will be rewriting.
It’s not out of the realm of possibility that Mahershala Ali suggested Pizzolatto to Marvel. The two worked together on season three of True Detective.
Big-screen work has been rare for Pizzolatto, with his previous credits being The Magnificent Seven, Galveston, and The Guilty. He also did some work on HBO’s Deadwood movie.
Blade is currently set to release on September 6th 2024 with Yann DeMange directing and a supporting cast of Goth, Delroy Lindo, and Aaron Pierre.
