‘Y2K’: Kyle Mooney To Direct Jaeden Martell, Rachel Zegler, Julian Dennison & More In A24’s Disaster Comedy

Let’s just say that A24 had one HELL of a 2022, capping things off with a Best Picture Oscar for Everything Everywhere All At Once. With a number of highly-anticipated projects already on the way, A24 is now adding one more, Y2K, a disaster comedy featuring a wealth of rising stars.

Deadline reports that SNL vet Kyle Mooney will direct Y2K, which will be led by It actor Jaeden Martell, Shazam: Fury of the Gods‘ Rachel Zegler, and Deadpool 2‘s Julian Dennison. Also in the cast are Scream‘s Mason Gooding, Alicia Silverstone, Lachlan Watson, Stranger Things‘ Eduardo Franco, Miles Robbins, Tim Heidecker, Fred Hechinger, Daniel Zolghadri of another acclaimed A24 film from last year, Funny Pages, and rapper The Kid Laroi.

Damn.

Set on New Year’s Eve 1999, the story centers on a pair of high schoolers who crash the last big party before the new millennium, only for things to go crazy once the clock strikes midnight.

Mooney will direct from a screenplay by Evan Winter.

Not everything A24 does has Oscar aspirations. Films such as Zola and Bodies Bodies Bodies are aimed squarely at today’s youth audience and Y2K looks like it’ll fit right in.
