James Gunn Teases ‘Man Of Tomorrow’ As Superman And Lex Luthor Teaming Against A “Much Bigger Threat”

As we all suspected from the teaser art for James Gunn’s Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, the film will be about Lex Luthor and Clark Kent working together against a bigger threat. Probably while keeping a close watch on the other.

Gunn revealed details while appearing on The Howard Stern Show, adding that he will begin shooting on the film around April 2026…

“It’s a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat,” Gunn teased. “It’s more complicated than that but that’s a big part of it. It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie. I loved working with Nicholas Hoult. I relate to the character of Lex, sadly. I really wanted to create something extraordinary with the two of them. I Just love the script so much.”

The rumor mill is already buzzing over the possibility of Brainiac being the villain powerful enough to bring these two foes together. Sounds logical to me. Brainiac is too intelligent for either to stop on their own.

Gunn continued by heaping praise on Supergirl star Milly Alcock, who he says “might be the best bit of a casting I’ve ever done in my entire life. She is absolutely stunning in the movie”. That film, which also features Jason Momoa as Lobo, arrives next June.

Man of Tomorrow hits theaters on July 9th 2027. [Variety]
