‘The X-Files’ Reboot On The Way From Ryan Coogler?

If “The Truth Is Out There”, could Ryan Coogler be the one to find it? The Black Panther and Creed director is reportedly on the verge of bringing back the iconic series, The X-Files. Sound like one of Mulder’s conspiracy theories? Well, the news comes from X-Files creator himself, Chris Carter.

Carter revealed the news in an interview with Gloria Macarenko, although he failed to disclose whether Coogler would be doing a reboot, a remake, perhaps a movie version of the hit sci-fi series?

“I just spoke to a young man… Ryan Coogler… who is going to remount ‘The X-Files’ with a diverse cast,” said Carter. “So he’s got his work cut out for him because we covered so much territory.”

The X-Files centered on agents Fox Mulder, played by David Duchovny, and Dana Scully, played by Gillian Anderson, who took on cases of a paranormal or extraterrestrial nature. The series played on the duo’s opposing ideologies, with Mulder a believer in the existence of alien activity, while Scully stayed skeptical. First aired in 1993, the program ran for nine seasons until 2002, then returned for two shortened seasons in 2016 and 2018. It also led to a pair of successful movies in 1998 and 2008.

Coogler has found success on everything he’s done so far, even revitalizing the Rocky brand with his Creed films. So there’s reason to be optimistic in what he could do with The X-Files, but let’s see what his actual involvement is and the direction he wants to go before getting too excited.
