Donnie Yen has been around for a long time, but those who only know him from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story or this week’s John Wick: Chapter 4, may not realize just how much they’re missing. Yen always keeps himself busy in his native China, and next month sees the release of his latest wuxia film, Sakra.
Directed by and starring Yen, the film finds him as Qiao Feng, respected leader of a roving band of martial artists. When he is exiled after being wrongfully accused of murder, Qiao Feng goes on the run in search for the truth about his mysterious origin, and the unknown enemies out to destroy him. The film is based on Louis Cha’s classic wuxia novel Demi-Gods And Semi-Devils.
Chen Yuqi, Cya Liu, Wai Ying Hung, Wu Yue, Cheung Siu Fai, Wong Kwan Hing, Du Yuming, Lui Leung Wai, and Tsui Siu Ming co-star.
Obviously, it doesn’t hurt to have Sakra opening in the U.S. on April 14th so soon after Yen gets a big push from John Wick 4. Sakra will also hit digital on April 18th.
Based on the classic wuxia novel Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils by Louis Cha (known worldwide by his pen name Jin Yong), SAKRA stars Donnie Yen as Qiao Feng, the respected leader of a roving band of martial artists. After he is wrongfully accused of murder and subsequently exiled, Qiao Feng goes on the run in search of answers about his own mysterious origin story—and the unknown enemies working to destroy him from the shadows.
