‘Paint’ Teaser Trailer Has Owen Wilson As A Bob Ross-Like Artist Who Loses Everything

Owen Wilson might look like Bob Ross, but he’s not playing Bob Ross. Paint is no biopic of the iconic painter of “happy little trees”, but it’s clearly influenced by him, right down to his white man’s afro.

Wilson stars as Carl Nargle, a painter and TV host on Vermont public television. He thinks he’s the man, until a younger, more talented artist comes along and takes it all away.

The film is written and directed by Brit McAdams, known for his work on Tosh.O and other comedy shows. His script was written in 2010 and was featured on that year’s Black List, which makes you wonder why it’s taken so long to get produced.

Anyway, McAdams has gathered a great comedy ensemble that includes Michaela Watkins, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ciara Renee, Lusia Strus, Stephen Root, and Lucy Freyer.

Paint was originally set to be released by IFC Films on April 28th, 2023, but was moved to April 7th. The film will stream exclusively on AMC+ later this year.

In PAINT, Owen Wilson portrays Carl Nargle, Vermont’s #1 public television painter who is convinced he has it all: a signature perm, custom van, and fans hanging on his every stroke… until a younger, better artist steals everything (and everyone) Carl loves.
