There’s a new Hellboy movie on the way, just four years after the David Harbour-led reboot stunk up the joint like a puff of sulfur. But there’s reason to be optimistic about this one. Deadline reports that Hellboy: The Crooked Man is in the works, with Hellboy creator Mike Mignola making his screenwriting debut. If anyone knows how to get the character right, it’s him.
The film will presumably be based on the 2008 comic that saw Hellboy and the BPRD taking on a dangerous coven of Appalachian witches. Mignola co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Golden. This isn’t Mignola’s first time working on the big screen. He had a story credit on Guillermo Del Toro’s Hellboy II: The Golden Army and was involved in the production of both of the filmmaker’s movies.
Directing The Crooked Man will be Brian Taylor, known to most of us as one-half of the Crank duo of Neveldine/Taylor. He also directed the terrific 2017 thriller-comedy Mom and Dad, and the Syfy series Happy!
As for who will get all red and brick-handed? The casting of Hellboy isn’t confirmed yet, but with shooting expected to begin next month in Bulgaria we should have the answer soon.
